What game servers need

Most game servers run their main simulation on one or two threads, so a CPU with a high clock speed often beats one with more, slower cores. SSD storage matters for map loading and world saves, especially on Minecraft and Rust. Memory needs grow with map size, mods and player count: 16 GB is a comfortable start for a single community server, 32 to 64 GB if you want to run several.

Pick a location near your players

Latency decides how a game feels. Put the server in the city closest to the bulk of your players and check the path with the looking glass. Central cities such as Dallas and Chicago are popular for North American communities; Frankfurt and Amsterdam for Europe.

Running more than one server

A single eight-core machine can host several game instances, a website, a Discord bot and a database for stats. That is where a dedicated server becomes cheaper than paying per-slot hosting for each game.

Questions people ask

Can I run a Rust or Minecraft server on these machines?

Yes. You get full root or administrator access, so you can install SteamCMD, Java, Pterodactyl, AMP or any panel you like.

How many players can one server handle?

It depends on the game, the map size and your mods more than on the hardware tier. Start with 16 GB of RAM for one community server, watch memory use as your population grows, and move up to 32 or 64 GB if you add more instances or heavy mod packs.

Is DDoS protection included?

Network protection varies by data center. Ask us about a specific location before ordering if your community is a frequent target.
